I first became aware of architecture whilst studying it as part of my art history degree, during which I specialised in the study of built heritage. Through my experience of and analysis of historic buildings – particularly the medieval built environment of Tours – architecture came to strike me as embodying an artistic approach and as a means of giving tangible form to an idea.
The idea of turning this into a practice emerged, rather, through a reflection on space and how it is experienced. My current interests centre on the way in which architecture shapes social groups and transforms our behaviour.
The practice of architecture enables me to experiment with social issues and to respond, through artistic practice, to concrete demands, be they political or comfort-related.
Je prends pour la première fois conscience de l’architecture, en l’étudiant dans ma formation à l’histoire de l’art, au sein de laquelle je me suis spécialisé dans l’étude du bâti. Par l’expérience et l’analyse des bâtiments historiques, et notamment du tissu médiéval de Tours, l’architecture m’est alors apparue comme porteuse d’une démarche artistique et comme manière de matérialiser une pensée.
L’idée d’en faire une pratique s’est plutôt révélée au travers d’une réflexion sur l’espace et son vécu. Mes intérêts actuels portent sur la manière dont l’architecture conditionne les groupes sociaux, et transforme nos comportements.
Dans cette démarche, je prépare mon mémoire de recherche sur le sujet des corps contraints, au sein de lieux répressifs, en particulier dans les centres de rétention administrative.
